Updates From the Brewery Floor

There have been lots of significant events around the brewery since my last update:

Batch 3000 was brewed on April 4th. We decided to make a black version of our beloved dry hopped Pale Ale, 1500. 1500 was actually made to commemorate batch 1500 at Drake’s, and its darker cousin 3000 is incredibly tasty, just like the original, except with a slight roasted flavor and of course, it’s black. I recommend you seek it out ’cause it won’t last.

We bought two new 20 bbl fermenters to accommodate our constantly growing need for more fermentation space. The first of the two was christened with none other than Denogginizer, and we brewed Amber in to the second tank last week. This brings Drake’s tank count to 22 fermentation vessels and 5 finished beer bright tanks.

The Drake’s production team has increased in size over the past month with the addition of two new employees. The first is Production Manager Jesse Houck. Jesse comes to us with a lot of enthusiasm and brewing talent, and with how fast we are growing these days, we could certainly use the extra hand – so a big welcome to Jesse. Additionally, we hired a new racker/bottler, Andrew Ritter, so another welcome to Drew. In other staff news, the youngest member of the production team, Kyle Wilson, has been promoted to cellarman – go Kyle!

Expedition, our spring seasonal Red Ale is being bottled this week into 22 oz. bombers. It’ s not quite ready yet, but I’ve had a few tastes of Expedition out of the fermenters and I’m loving all of its red and hoppy goodness. I think you’ll love it too, so look for it. I think the label is particularly cool as well.

The brewery tasting room is closed until our spanking new Barrel House opens in June. We’re sad to see it go, but we’re also super excited about the new bigger and better location in our adjacent warehouse space. You can follow the progress of the Barrel House on the brewery’s website. Anyway, that’s all for now from the production floor at Drake’s. Until next time.

Stay Thirsty,

Alexandra
