Drake’s Brings Home GABF Silver for Black Robusto Porter

This past year it looks like our Black Robusto Porter decided to put on its big boy pants and bring home the bacon (which coincidentally is a really tasty pairing).

After years of living life as a draft only release, Robusto wanted to see the world, to meet the craft beer drinking public at home and across the state. So in November 2012, the first 22oz bottles of Black Robusto hit the shelves in California.

Before our Robusto even had time to bask in the splendor of the cold box doors next to its brothers Drakonic and Denogginizer, awards season came round, and it was sent out to test its mettle against the other Robust Porters of the land.

In San Diego, a veritable Mecca-like conglomeration of craft breweries, beers, and beer drinkers; Robusto snagged a Gold Medal at the San Diego International Beer Competition. Then, shortly thereafter, Los Angeles awarded it a Bronze at their Los Angeles International Commercial Beer Competition. Then up in Sacramento, the judges got together at the California State Fair Commercial Beer Competition and gave it another Bronze.

Needless to say, it was feeling pretty good about itself this year. So, as the granddaddy festival competition of 2013 rolled around, the Brewers Association’s Great American Beer Festival®, Robusto was in the mix to try its luck.

In Denver this past week, Robusto was put to the test. Sniffed. Swirled. Picked Apart. Sipped. Scrutinized. Savored.

Well-versed judges from around the world sat at the table and passed Robusto on from round to round of intensive judging until they landed at their final picks for best Robust Porters of 2013. Drake’s Black Robusto had snagged the Silver Medal.

While, it certainly likes Gold too, Robusto was pleased with the honor bestowed upon it from the esteemed collection of judges. Now it proudly waits in cold boxes around California hankering to get out to share itself with even more California beer lovers.
