Drake’s SFBW 2014 Schedule

We’re gonna be all over the Bay Area for Beer Week, so much so it’ll no doubt make our head spin. Well, that and all the Hopocalypse.  Here’s our list of events we’ll be representing at… feel free to bend our ears, ask us questions, or hell, just drink our beer.

Friday, February 7

Opening Gala (Concourse Exhibition Center, San Francisco) 6-10pm
The best damn beer week in America kicks off this night in San Francisco’s SOMA district, where the best brewers from the Bay Area and beyond converge for one of the best beer fests you’ll ever find this side of GABF.  Look for the giant Hopocalypse bottles* at our booth for the absolute best Drake’s has to offer to the best beer fans on the West Coast. (*-Not actual bottles of Hopocalypse… please do not attempt to drink our banners.)

Drake’s First Friday (Drake’s Barrel House) 4-8pm
You didn’t think we were gonna not throw San Leandro’s biggest party just because of Beer Week, did you?  This iteration of our… dare we say legendary… “block” party will benefit San Leandro’s own Roosevelt Elementary.  If this whole First Friday thing is new to you… here’s the deal.  It’s suggested $5 to get in (going directly to the school), then you get a glass & three tokens from us for $15.  You get to keep the glass (and use it the net time you come), and you trade us a token for a full pint (and you can bring unused tokens back).  It’s one of the best happy hours around, and the beer doesn’t get much fresher than this.  Fiveten Burger & Go Streatery will be on hand with the good grub.

Saturday, February 8

Double IPA Fest (The Bistro, Hayward) 11am-6pm
More than 70 DIPAs and TIPAs from CA on tap and judged at this classic fest. Chris Dunstan and others from the brewhouse will be there to take you through the Drake’s entries, Hopocalypse DIPA, Hopocalypse Black Label, and Hop Sandwich on Rye (DIPA with Rye).

Cask & Queso (Thirsty Bear, San Francisco) 6pm
Thirsty Bear will feature a cask of our Hopocalypse paired with cheese alongside many other cask and cheese pairings at this delicious annual event. Brewers Ian Powell and Justin Peck will be there scarfing cheese and chatting it up with Drake’s lovers.

Drakaraoke (Gestalt Haus, San Francisco) 7pm
During a crazy time like SF Beer Week, it’s good to let loose wherever you can.  So join Kelsey, Anthony, and a few others as they let their bines down and sing very good songs very badly.  Come fight back with your own very special rendition of I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles), Roxanne (the Moulin Rouge version), or Tha Crossroads and let us know what’s what.  Don’t worry… we’re bringing a ton of specialties & collaborations with us to get you in the karaoke mood.

Sunday, February 9

The Sour Sunday (Jupiter & Triple Rock, Berkeley) 11:30am-5pm
The ultimate sour lovers dream of an event with beers from epic Belgian sour creators Cantillon, Fantome, Drie Fonteinen, as well as other imported whales at Triple Rock. Jupiter will have a full lineup of barrel-aged beers and sours from local breweries and domestic producers including Crooked Stave, Russian River, Magnolia, Almanac, Drake’s and more.

dbl-hop-gotriple-hop-goMonday, February 10

Triple Hopocalypse (Sycamore, San Francisco) 5pm
We’re gonna cram all three of our Hopocalypse beers into the friendly confines of Sycamore… our Hopocalypse Green Label double IPA, our Hopocalypse Black Label triple IPA, and Post-Hopocalypse, a small beer made from the second runnings of Black Label.

Tuesday, February 11

Lunch Special, with Triple Rock & Faction (Triple Rock, Berkeley) 11:30am-4pm
Drake’s, Faction, and Triple Rock will take over the taps at the grandaddy of all three- Triple Rock- with their trio of collaborative DIPAs: Hop Soup (Faction), Hop Salad (Triple Rock), Hop Sandwich on Rye (Drake’s). Meet Triple Rock & Drake’s head brewers Jeff Kimpe and John Gillooly there, and pick their brains & bines on these beers.

Drake’s is teaming up with local cheese expert Kirstin Jackson, author of “It’s Not You, It’s Brie: Unwrapping American Cheese Culture” to lay down some beer and cheese pairing knowledge with six selections of Drake’s beers paired with California cheeses both classic and rare. Get a taste of beer and cheese education with the Drake’s team and Kirstin Jackson during SF Beer Week 2014.  Included will be some awesome beers like our Rakish Ryewine and La Brettacabra, along with beer and cheese tasting notes by Kirstin Jackson and our specialty cellarman Travis Camacho.

On top of all this, we’ll be sending our beer off to plenty of bars & restaurants all over the Bay Area for events that haven’t been published yet.  We’ll keep this blog post updated as more events come in, and you can also keep an eye out on the SFBW schedule for other events that will feature Drake’s beers.

And remember kids… drink lots of water, and make sure to keep a BART schedule and a stash of cab money on you.  We want to make sure we’ll see you during SF Beer Week 2015, too.  Cheers!
